Design-A-Knit
is a marvelous computer software program with which you can create a
knit garment shape, then add designs and colors. Once you have
"created" your masterpiece on the computer, you can downloaded
the information into your knitting machine with the appropriate cable
and knit the garment.

SVGA
(the program can run in VGA mode, but this restricts you to
16 basic colors. Further "dithered" colors are available,
but these are not suitable for use with the copy and paste
commands in the Stitch Designer section of the program. VGA
mode also severely restricts the functionality of the
DesignaKnit Graphics Studio, for which High Color or True
Color mode is recommended for complex bitmaps and
photographs).
RS232 Serial Port for Cable Link.
Some Cable Links can now be used with a USB adapter. I use a
Hawking H-UC232S with my XP laptop.

A word from Junebug: My first DAK was Version 5. When I got it,
I didn't really think I'd use it that much. As I learned to use
it, I became addicted. I now have Version 7, and don't know how I
ever lived without it!
With all the resources now
available on the internet for clip art, graphics, etc., the creative
possibilities are endless! And the knitting lists devoted to helping people with DAK
really make it much easier to learn how to use Dak. There is
almost always someone on these lists who can answer your question.

Lace Module for
Design-A-Knit 7
This add on module will
design lace patterns for Brother, Studio and
Toyota machines. Some of the features
are designing plain, fine, fashion and
normal lace. Templates, downloading
and interactive knitting are possible.
NOTE: To order this, we need your
DAK customer number.
If you want to do Brother
interactive knitting on the 965, 965i or
970, you will need to purchase the large
magnet for the lace carriage. The
link for the 930, 940 and 950i (Brother 1)
is different - there is no switch and so the
movement of either carriage is detected
without the need for a magnet.

Brother Cables
You
should use only a cable which has been
designed for your make and model of knitting
equipment. Make sure that the label on
the cable shows that it is the correct cable
for your machine.
Do
not connect a cable to a disk drive or to
anything other than an IBM-compatible PC
serial port and the appropriate knitting
machine or pattern device. Soft Byte
Ltd. and its agents cannot accept any
responsibility whatsoever for any damage so
caused.
